Review 2014: What a fabulous Eurovision year!

The first month of 2014 saw many European countries either continue or begin their selection process for Copenhagen.

On 10 January, we found the first Eurovision representative of the year. Belarusian artist TEO won the national selection in Minsk with his song Cheesecake. In Copenhagen he qualified to the Grand final finishing in 16th place with 43 points.

Back in the host city, preparations were in full swing. In this month we saw DR looking for volunteers and announcing that this year’s postcards would involve the artist making their county flag. We also learnt that 37 countries would compete in Copenhagen with both Poland and Portugal making a return. On 20 January the semi-final allocation draw took place and the results were as follows:

January concluded with the presentation of this year’s Italian entry. Emma Marrone performed La mia città and came 21st with 33 points.
