The Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has decided to hold a national final to select its 2005 Eurovision Song Contest participant. Last year, the national broadcaster decided to skip the national final due to budget limits and selected Jónsi internally.

A format for the final is unknown yet, although rumours are going around that between 8 and 15 participants, like recent years, will participate. About the hosts for the show nothing is clear yet.

The Icelandic national final, traditionally named Songvakeppnin, takes place on Saturday 19th February and will be broadcast live on the internet (ruv.is).

19th February 2005 is a day to mark in your agenda. Also in FYR Macedonia, Finland and Malta a song for the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev will be selected.
