Renowned French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier will design the stage outfits for duo Madame Monsieur.

Émilie Satt and Jean-Karl Lucas of duo Madame Monsieur will grace the Eurovision 2018 stage in Lisbon dressed in creations by famous designer Jean-Paul Gaultier. Broadcaster France 2 and Madame Monsieur proudly  announced the news:

Madame Monsieur are excited to work together with the designer whose creations were worn by superstars such as Madonna (the emblematic cone bra), Kylie Minogue and Lady Gaga, among numerous others.

Gaultier in Eurovision

Jean-Paul Gaultier is a Eurovision enthusiast himself and already left his mark on the contest. He was responsible for the iconic reprise performance dress of Israel’s Eurovision 1998 winner Dana International, adorned with many-coloured feathers, and he dressed French representative Anggun at Eurovision 2012, plus other French ESC participants such as 1991’s runner-up Amina Annabi. In 2013 the designer created the Grand Final outfit of host Petra Mede. One of his muses is ESC 2014 winner Conchita Wurst, who on several occasions wore the designer’s signature creations, and paraded on the catwalk as a guest model during his shows.

In addition, Jean-Paul Gaultier was one of France’s commentators for Eurovision 2008, alongside Julien Lepers.

Basic black or a bit of bling?

Known for his often flamboyant, opulent style, it is as yet a secret how Jean-Paul Gaultier will clothe Madame Monsieur in accordance with their song Mercy. The duo was soberly dressed in black during the French national final, which fit the theme of their song. No doubt the designer will create elegant outfits in his signature style.

Colour may symbolically convey the theme of hope expressed in Mercy. However, a bit of black is never bad.

Madame Monsieur will perform Mercy in the Grand Final of Eurovision 2018 on Saturday 12 May 2018.
