Romania: Selecţia Naţională 2017 rules released; final on 5 March

TVR, the Romanian national broadcaster, has released the rules and regulations for the country’s upcoming national selection for the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest, Selecţia Naţională 2017.

Get ready as submissions for Romania’s Eurovision 2017 national selection are set to open tomorrow morning! From the 20 December to the 22 January 2017, artists and composers are invited to submit their entries for the country’s upcoming national selection.

TVR asks for entries to be submitted via the following options:

  • CD submissions can be sent to TVR via the following address; (Calea Dorobanţilor nr. 191, sector 1, Bucureşti) with the title Pentru Selecţia Naţională Eurovision 2017 listed on the envelope
  • Alternatively, entries can be submitted online via email to the following address; ([email protected])

Shortlisting the final 15

Following the closure of submissions, a specialist jury is set to meet from the 25 January 2017 to listen to each of the submitted entries. The jury will be asked to judges the entries based on a number of factors, such as;

  • Musical consistency
  • Orchestral arrangement
  • Originality
  • Diversity
  • Vocal quality

The jury will shortlist up to a total of 15 entries which will be presented no later than the 15 February 2017.

These 15 acts will compete in the semi-final stage of Selecţia Naţională 2017, set to take place on the 26 February 2017. The jury will ranked each of the entries using the Eurovision scoring mechanism (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12 points), in which a maximum of 10 entries will qualify to the Grand Final the following week.

On the 5 March, it’ll be down to the public televote to decide which of the final 10 acts should win Selecţia Naţională 2017 and go on to represent Romania at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv.

Selecţia Naţională 2017 dates

  • 26/02: Semi-final (15 participants, maximum of 10 qualifiers)
  • 05/03: Grand Final (10 participants, televote to decide winner)
