This evening in the second introduction show of the event, the artists and songs selected to compete in the Latvian national selection Supernova 2016 will be revealed.

Following last week’s initial introduction show, tonight we’ll learn all of the 20 competing acts who are bidding to represent Latvia at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest via the country’s national selection, Supernova 2016.

A total of 120 songs were submitted to the national broadcaster along with 88 artists who applied to compete in the selection. The 120 entries and 88 artists were shortlisted to 20 acts by both a local and international jury.

The 20 participants will be split into 2 heats with 10 competing in each one, but only 4 from each heat will qualify to the semi-final stage of the selection. During the semi-final, 4 artists will again qualify to the grand final of the selection set to take place on the 28 February.

• 07/02: Heat 1 (Ten participants, 4 qualifiers)
• 14/02: Heat 2 (Ten participants, 4 qualifiers)
• 21/02: Semi-final (Eight participants, 4 qualifiers)
• 28/02: Grand final (Four finalists, winner decided)

This is the second year Supernova has been Latvia’s selection choice for the Eurovision Song Contest having previously made its debut in 2015. Aminata won Supernova 2015 with her entry Love injected, going on to represent her country at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest and bringing Latvia their most successful results in recent years (6th place).
