In February, Walloon broadcaster RTBF launched the search for participants for EuroKids 2004, the shows that will point out the Belgian representative at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Three months later, RTBF has selected the 10 participants.

“At a certain moment, we thought it would be a flop”, says Leslie Cable, responsible for the Eurovision Song Contest at RTBF. “One week before the deadline, only 20 children had reacted. But then the last week we received more than 260 subscriptions!

Out of all subscriptions, 33 songs have been selected for auditions. “These auditions are really different from the ones with adults””, says Leslie Cable. “We really took our time with the children to check if they really were the composers of the song. There was also a psychologist present who talked with the children to see if they would be able to stand psychological pressure.”

These auditions finally pointed out the final 10 participants. There are duets, trios and solo performers. The 10 finalists will be presented to the press on 23rd June. The children will compete in two semi-finals. In the final, the Belgian song for the 2004 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be selected.

Following the Flemish example, the children recorded one song all together and a video clip for this song was made. Together with the 10 selected songs it will feature on the EuroKids 2004 album.
