Tonight the fourth and last semifinal of Eurosong 2004 takes place in Flanders, Belgium. As usual, also this edition of Eurosong has its little scandals. Eye-catchers tonight are Natalia and Barbara Dex!

Although Flemish broadcaster VRT saved the best for last, Eurosong 2004 had to face some small scandals this week. What should have been the climax of the four semifinals in Flanders might end with some controversial TV show tonight.

Due to a mistake of a Radio 2 presenter, the whole televoting organised by Radio 2 had to be cancelled and done over again on Friday. On top of all that, this second try failed as well and so the Radio 2 votes tonight will be completely composed by the Radio 2 staff.

But there is more commotion concerning the juries. Marcel Vanthilt, one of the members of the professional jury gave his quite hard opinion about tonights participant Natalia in an interview with a Flemish newspaper: How long does Natalia already exist? One year? Shes already working on my nerves for one year. Even harder words followed for his colleague jury member Serge Simonart. This incident will be point of discussion at VRT, but firing Vanthilt as jury member is out of the question according to Eurosong 2004 producer Ludo Porrez.

To the songs then. Seven songs will compete for the last tickets to the final. Two eye-catchers tonight: Natalia and Barbara Dex!

Eva – Angels
Sodapop – Time to party
Amaryllis Temmerman – God in alle eenvoud
Peter Elkins – Cry love
Natalia – Higher than the sun
X-Elementz – Innocent
Barbara Dex & Alides Hidding – One life

Natalia Druyts, the Idols runner-up suddenly became the most mentioned artist for Eurosong 2004 after she released Ive only begun to fight, which reached the number one position in the Flemish single charts. Tonight she sings a song in the same style: Higher than the sun.

But top of the bill for the Eurovision fans surely is Barbara Dex. Barbara ended last for Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 with Iemand als jij. Her legendary dreadful dress was the inspiration for the Barbara Dex Award, the yearly award for the worst dressed Eurovision participant. This year Barbara does a bid to go to the Eurovision Song Contest again with the song One life, a Disney sounding song with African influences. Barbara gets vocal support of Dutch singer Alides Hidding.
