LIVE

Anne Igartiburu welcomes the audience and thanks the viewers for the considerable support they gave last week's show, nearly 2 million. The jury members are being presented, and Daniel Diges reports from the green room. The performances are about to start

Song 1. Pau Quero – Abanibi

Pau Quero, the first performer of the night, is singing a Spanish version of the 1979 Israeli entry Abanibi. The song doesn't require high vocal skills, which is no excuse for Pau, who lacks a strong and convincing voice. The jury gives the first negative appraisal of the whole competition.

Song 2. Lorena Rosales – My number one

Lorena is next up singing the 2005 winning entry My number one of Greece. Lorena looks very confident on stage, with good vocals, although something is missing there. Maybe Helena Paparizou's energyis too hard to imitate. The jury seems to like Lorena's performance.

Song 3. Don Johnsons – Yo soy aquel

Don Johnsons are ready to cover one of Spain's flagship songs in the Eurovision Song Contest, Raphael's Yo soy aquel. The band has opted for a rock flavour, which is not easy at all, bearing in mind that Yo soy aquel is a pure and solemn ballad. The performance has gone down well with both the public and the jury.

The jury will now decide which of these three acts will be eliminated…

Pau Quero does not proceed to the televoting stage. Lorena Rosales and Don Johnsons will face the verdict of the viewers.

Song 4. Sergi Albert – Hold me now

Sergi, the fourth singer in tonight's show, takes the challenge of performing Johnny Logan's Hold me now. He will have the chance to demonstrate his experience in musicals. His vocals sound great, mild and totally in tune. It is also worth to mention that Sergi's English pronounciation is one of the best of the whole competition so far. The audience applauds loudly, and the jury follows by praising his performance.

Song 5. Mónica Guech – Believe

Mónica appears on stage playing the piano while singing the 2008 Russian entry in a mix of English and Spanish languages. Mónica is one of the favourites to qualify for the semifinal. Her vocals are quite good, powerful and emotional. The staging elements also add up to the whole performance. At the end of the song, Mónica leaves the piano and advances towards the public in order to engage them.

Song 6. Alazán – Bandido

It comes as no surprise that Alazán, Azúcar Moreno's nieces, have chosen Bandido for their performance. They even do the same dance routine as the 1990 Spanish representatives. Their vocals are not as strong as those of Toñi and Encarna. Maybe not the best choice for the girls, as it was too predictable and obvious that they would go forBandido tonight.

Alazán are eliminated. Sergi Albert and Mónica Guech advance to the televoting phase.

Song 7. Sebas – Molitva

Sebas is living his Eurovision dream tonight by participating in the Spanish national final. He describes himself as a big fan of the contest, and is well-known by the users of partner site eurovision-spain.com. He is facing the big responsibility of covering Marija Serifovic's Molitva, in Spanish this time. Sebas delivers a convincing performance, with strong vocals, conveying a message of self-confidence.

Song 8. Melissa – Après toi

Melissa sings the 1972 winning song Après toi. She is from a francophone family, which helps her have a proper French singing accent. Her performance is good, as Melissa possesses powerful and warm vocals. Nonetheless, this version doesn't help her give her best. Maybe the original Vicky Leandros song would have been better for Melissa's interests.

Song 9. Sometimes – Waterloo

Vocal group Sometimes, whose members hail from the island of Tenerife, became known in X-Factor back in 2006. We all know that a capella bands usually don't do well in Eurovision. However, it is worth to remark their high vocal skills and the merit behind using their throats to produce the musical background. The five guys finish their performance with a strong ending.

Another act is about to leave the Spanish national selection for Eurovision.

The jury decides that Sometimes is no longer in the competition. Sebas and Melissa proceed to the televoting round.

Song 10. Valeria Antonella – Save your kisses for me

Born in Mexico, Valeria Antonella honours her mother tongue by singing one of the British winning songs in Spanish. The performance is a bit plain, with little dance routine accompanying the chorus of the song. Save your kisses for me is not a demanding song in terms of vocal abilities, but Valeria sounds out of tune, missing some notes. So thinks the jury.

Song 11. We – Enséñame a cantar

The duo We got together in Miami, USA. They are covering the Spanish 1977 entry in a surprising country-pop-rock funny style with a godspell flavour at times. Nice surprise, by the way. Their vocals are totally in tune, looking confident on stage and making the public cheer loudly at them. One of the most original acts of the evening.

Song 12. Esmeralda Grao – Nacida para amar

Esmeralda is one of those singers that slowly are gaining recognition in Spain thanks to their tireless work and effort. Esmeralda Grao was backing vocalist to Mikel Herzog in Eurovision 1998. Esmeralda is an experienced singer, which can be seen in her vocal abilities. Anyway, her rendition of Nacida para amar has lacked some strength.

The jury has decided that Valeria Antonella doesn't deserve a place in the televoting phase. Esmeralda Grao and We pass.

You can now vote for your favourite act in our poll here.

Alazán, one of the eliminated acts tonight, insist on complaining about the decision of the jury. Maybe they could use this as an excuse to give a lucrativeexclusive interview to a gossip tv show.

Lines are now open for 20 minutes.

It's time now for the guest performances. Malú sings her latest single Blanco y negro.

David Civera is the next guest artist to take the stage. He is singing a new version of his 2001 Eurovision entry Dile que la quiero.

Merche, member of the jury,is the third and last guest performer. She sings No puede ser.

The results will be announced in a few minutes.
