Watch now: Germany selects for Eurovision with Unser Song 2017

Germany will hold its national final, Unser Song 2017, tonight. After two years of last final placings, they will try to take themselves up the scoreboard with Wildfire or with Perfect life.

THE PARTICIPANTS

Out of 2493 applications received by November, the number was shortlisted to 33 and then to five. One artist replacement, and the five hopefuls of Unser Song 2017 are:

  1. Axel Maximilian Feige
  2. Felicia Lu Kürbiß
  3. Helene Nissen
  4. Isabella “Levina” Lueen
  5. Yosefin Buohler

Two songs are in the run to represent Germany: Wildfire and Perfect life, featured in a different arrangements for the artists.

THE SYSTEM

The German final tends to be one of the most complicated selections featuring various qualification rounds in one show. This year’s selection is no exception, so hold on tight and try to understand tonight’s format.

  1. The five acts will sing cover versions for songs of their choice. Three will qualify.
  2. The three acts will perform Wildfire. Two will qualify.
  3. The two acts will perform Perfect lifeThe two acts have now performed each both entries. The best of the two for each act out of the four combinations will qualify.
  4. The two acts have each its only one entry in the run. The winner of the duel will represent Germany in Eurovision 2017.

THE SHOW

Once again, the German lady of Eurovision, Barbara Schöneberger, will host the show live from Cologne and will air on Das Erste and EinsFestival from 20:15 CET. Webstream will be available on NDR’s official Eurovision website.

Although the 5 bidding acts will be performing to both the international public as well as a 3-member jury consisting of members Lena Meyer-Landrut, Tim Bendzko and Florian Silbereisen, it will be solely down to the German televote to decide which act will represent the nation at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.
