Ajda Pekkan, who represented Turkey in 1980, has just released her brand new album Cool kadin (Cool woman). One of our dedicated visitors, Safak Emre Dogan, reports…

The album has 11 new tracks and a remix version, including the hit Cool kadin, a funky disco tune Amazon, and her silky version of the famous pop-aria Spente le Stelle (which was previously recorded by Emma Shapplin) in Italian. Tuba Önal (Turkey 1999) and Özge Fiskin (Sertab Erener’s backing singer and dancer in 2003) are another highlights from the album, whose names appear on the credits as backing vocals.

Since the word Superstar is somewhat dedicated to Ajda in Turkey, this year’s Turkish representative Sibel Tüzün told during an interview, that when it was clear that she was gonna sing Superstar at the Eurovision Song Contest, she called Ajda and asked her opinion. Ajda was so kind to fully support Sibel!

Ajda is familiar to the Eurovision Song Contest scene since she has represented Turkey with the song Petr’oil song and came 15th with 23 points.

The Turkish pop icon has been singing professionally since 1962 and continues to tour around Turkey and other European countries, with many sold-out concerts. Her discography features 20 albums, 54 singles, many number one hits in eight languages, and sold more than 10 million copies in 14 countries.
