Cyprus and the Eurovision Song Contest
Cyprus takes part for the 24th time. In 1982, the island was represented by Anna Vissi, who represents Greece this year. During this year's national final, Annet's ballad Why angels cry didn't receive the maximum amount of points from any of the voting juries. She won with a difference of five points from Marios Tofi, who represented Cyprus at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2004.

Annet Artani
Annet Artani was born in New York and already gathered some fame in the US. She worked a backing singer for Britney Spears and wrote the song Everytime with her. Her songwriter, Peter Yiannakis, previously co-wrote the Cypriot Eurovision Song of 1986, Tora zo.

Why angels cry
When I'm feeling down
In this world of Madness
You comfort all my sadness
You soothe my pain away

'Cause these are trying times
Filled with so much sorrow
I wonder if tomorrow
Will bring a brighter day

CHORUS
Why do the angels cry
Why doesn't love survive
Why do we all just pretend
Why do the angels cry
Innocent children die
When will it all ever end

Close your eyes and dream
Visualise a rainbow
A place where you can pray for
Peace and harmony

Search for the heard
Find a higher meaning
Let this be the start
A brand new beginning

CHORUS
