Italy: Raffaella Carra to host a special Eurovision show?

Raffaella Carra is tipped to host a special Eurovision show on Rai 2 on the 14th of May. Italian national broadcaster RAI will be airing the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest on Rai 2. Italy will be back in the Eurovision Song Contest after a long absence, they were last seen on the Eurovision stage in 1997. Raffaella Carra is a familiar face with Eurovision fans as she hosted the Spanish 2008 Eurovision final.

Italian Eurovision website reports that Raffaella Carra is to host a special show that will kick off before the Eurovision Song Contest on the 14th of May.This news hasnot been officially confirmed by Rai yet.Raffaella Carra invited several Eurovision stars to her show on Rai during the 2008 summer in order to re introduce the Eurovision flavour to the Italian audience.

Italy was one of the founder members of the Eurovision Song Contest, thus participating in the very first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 in Lugano. Italy has won the Eurovision Song Contest 2 times in 1964 with Gigliola Cinquetti and in1990 with Toto Cotugno. Italy will make its most awaited comeback to the Eurovision Song Contest this year when Raphael Gualazzi will take the stage in Dusseldorf.

Italy has sent some of itsbest and internationallyrecognized singers to the Eurovision Song Contest who have enjoyed name, fame and glory both at home and overseas. Domenico Modugno, Umberto Tozzi,Franco Battiato, Gigliola Cinquetti, Ana Oxa, Massimo Ranieri, Mia Martini, Al Bano and Romina Power, Jalisse, Matia Bazar, Enrico Ruggeri,Nicola di Bari and Gianni Morandi are among some.
