Greeks promoting the Olympic games while in Riga

The Greek delegation and broadcaster, ERT, are using the media interest in the Eurovision Song Contest in Riga to promote the Olympic games, due to be held next year in Athens.

Presenter of the 1986 Eurovision Song Contest opened that contest by saying that “The Olympic games and the Eurovision Song Contest have one thing in common: the important thing is not to win but to participate“. Some would disagree with that statement, but it seems there is an Olympic link to the Eurovision Song Contest, as the Greeks are using the media's interest in the contest to promote the Olympics next year in Athens. Flags and pins with the official logos of the games are handed over to journalists and delegates, as well as a booklet with the games mascot.

The Greek entrant, Mando, had her second stage rehearsal today. In the press conference afterwards she admitted her being more nervous as the contest draws near. The Mediterranean party tonight, which will present Greece as well as Spain, Cyprus and Malta, will probably help Mando enjoy the time left until Saturday.
