Cyprus: CyBC confirms participation in Eurovision 2017

CyBC the Cypriot national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Cyprus will compete at the forthcoming 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine next year.

CyBC is yet to determine the mechanism it will use to select its Eurovision entry and act for ESC 2017. The broadcaster is expected to release more details in due course.

Thus Cyprus joins Latvia, Portugal, Slovenia, Armenia, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, France, Germany, Ukraine, The Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland and Estonia all whom have confirmed their participation at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine.

In 2016 Cyprus selected Minus One via an internal selection in order to fly the Cypriot flag at the ESC in Stockholm. The all boy rockband made Cyprus proud with their entry Alter ego.

Cyprus debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 an is yet to win the competition. The country achieved its best placing the contest in 1982, 1997 and 2004 when it came 5th.

The preliminary dates for the 2017 ESC have been set on held on 9, 11 and 13 May.
