Serbia: RTS confirms participation in Eurovision 2019

RTS, the Serbian national broadcaster has confimed to ESCToday that Serbia will participate at the forthcoming 2019 Eurovision Song Contest in Israel.

Thus Serbia joins Malta, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Latvia, Belgium, Germany, Cyprus and France in the list of countries who have confirmed their presence at the upcoming 2019 Eurovision edition.

The Serbian broadcaster is yet to determine the mechanism it will use in order to select its 2019 Eurovision entry and act. RTS is set to disclose its Eurovision 2019 plan of action in due course, it is highly likely that Serbia will opt for a national selection in order to choose its ESC representative for Israel.

Serbia in Eurovision

Serbia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest as a solo country in 2007 and walked away with the coveted trophy when Marija Serifovic was crowned the winner with her melodic ballad Molitva. The country successfully hosted the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade the following year, when the EBU introduced two semi-finals in the competition.

In 2018 Serbia brought back its traditional national selection Beovizija in order to select its Eurovision entry and act for Lisbon. Sanja Ilic and Balkanika won the the golden ticket to Lisbon and defended the Serbian colours at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest with their song Nova deca, placing 19th in the Grand Final.
