With guitarist Leo Đokaj he formed his first band Visoka Frekvencija (High Frequency), later establishing The Moon Band, and the Montenegro Band, which also featured Knez’ father, Milija Knežević.

Knez started his solo-career in 1992 when he performed at the Belgrade Pop Festival, Mesam, and started recording his first solo-album Kao magija in the same year. His highest selling album is Automatic from 1997. Knez won the Music Festival Budva 2000 in 2000, with the song Vjeruj, and in 2006 won the third place during Budva 2006. Over the years, Knez has become one of the most beloved artists of Montenegro and the Balkans, combining pop-music with typical ethnic sounds and folkloristic elements, and also interpreting popular songs from the Balkans-area. At the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna, Austria, Knez will perfrom the song Adio (Goodbye), composed and co-written by Željko Joksimović (Eurovision participant in 2004 and 2012, Eurovsion composer in 2006 and 2008, and host of the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia).
