Sweden: SVT reveals full voting breakdown of Melodifestivalen 2018

Up until now, we knew the most important about Melodifestivalen 2018; the young singer Benjamin Ingrosso triumphed in the event and thus he will become Robin Bengtsson’s successor on the Eurovision stage!

However, it’s time the national broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT) revealed the full voting breakdown of all 6 live shows that were airing from early February until last Saturday. Let’s have a look!

The 4 semi-finals

The outcome of each semi-final event was determined 100% by the public’s verdict. The two acts receiving the highest percentage of votes would be progressing to the Grand Final, whilst the 3rd and 4th would be given a second chance on the show of 3 March in the city of Kristianstad.

Deltävling 1 – 3 February

Melodifestivalen 2018 opened its curtains with the first semi-final, live from the city of Karlstad. Here are its detailed results. A total of 6,617,451 votes were cast.

The second semi-final took place on 10 February in Gothenburg. Fewer than last show, a total of 5,880,237 votes were received.

Deltävling 3 – 17 February

Live from Malmö Arena, the show’s third semi-final aired on 17 February. Martin Almgren and Jessica Andersson got the direct tickets to the final. This show saw a total of 4,800,971 votes.

The fourth and last Melodifestivalen’s semi-final was held in the city of Örnsköldsvik. Mariette and Rolandz were advanced to the final, whilst 4,866,749 votes determined the result.

Andra Chansen (Second Chance) – 3 March

For the second chance round, the 8 competing acts were divided into 4 duels, where only one of the two respective acts would be qualifying to the final, bringing the total number of finalists to 12. The show took place in Kristianstad and here is its full voting breakdown:

The broadcaster SVT received a total of 4,866,749 votes during the Andra Chansen round.

Grand Final

The show’s results have been already known. However, it’s time to look at real numbers how the public vote influenced the final decision of the Swedes.

This brings the overall number of votes cast in the final to 13,993,975, whilst from the 6 live shows a total of 3,970,226 Swedish kroner (approx. 392,790 EUR) has been collected and will be offered to Radiohjälpen, the broadcaster’s humanitarian foundation.

Sweden and Benjamin Ingrosso will compete in the 2nd half of the second semi-final evening on 10 May.
