Fatti avanti amore

It’s been 18 years since Nek last performed on the Sanremo stage. His first appearance was back in 1993, when he competed in the newcomers’ category with the song In te.  The song, which came in third place, dealt with the issue of abortion and was inspired by the real-life experiences of one of his friends.

When he returned to Sanremo four years on, in 1997, Nek competed in the ‘Big Artists’ category. His song, Laura non’ c’è, finished in seventh place, behind Jalisse and Anna Oxa. But the song went on to gain huge popularity, both in Italy and the rest of Europe. Nek recorded versions in Spanish and English, and it has been covered by French artist Céréna, and a Dutch-language version was the second single to be taken from Belgian Pop Idol winner Wim Soutaer’s debut album.

Nek has made 12 Italian-language albums, many of which have also been released in Spanish versions. In 2007, he recorded a Spanish-language version of his song Lascia che io sia with the band El Sueño de Morfeo, who went on to represent Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with Contigo hasta el final.

In Septmeber of last year, Nek performed at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico during the Interreligious Football Match, in which famous players of all backgrounds got together to promote peace and understanding.

Nek will participate in the 65th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival this coming February with the song Fatti avanti amore.
