Sweden: SVT confirms participation in Eurovision 2015

SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday.com that Sweden will compete at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 in Austria. Thus Sweden is the 3rd country to confirm its participation in Austria, joining Switzerland and Ireland.

SVT as is tradition will select its 2015 Eurovision entry and act via the annual Melodifestivalen national selection. The Swedish broadcaster is expected to release further details regarding the 2015 Melodifestivalen in the coming months.

Sanna Nielsen won the 2014 Melodifestivalen and flew the Swedish flag at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with her entry Undo, achieving an honorable 3rd place in the grand final in Copenhagen.

2015 will mark the 60th anniversary, the Diamond Jubilee, of the Eurovision Song Contest. The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Austria, with the host city is yet to be determined.

Sweden debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1958 with Alice Babs and has won the event 5 times in 1974 with ABBA, in 1984 with Herreys, in 1991 with Carola, in 1999 with Charlotte Perelli and in 2012 with Loreen. The country has hosted the event on 5 occasions defending their victories: Stockholm (1975,2000), Malmo (1992, 2013) and Goteborg (1985).
