Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS is set to announce its decision regarding the Netherlands’ participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 by late August or early September. The announcement comes as fans eagerly await news on the country’s return to the competition after its absence in the previous edition.
Netherlands’ Eurovision 2027 Decision Nears
AVROTROS, the Dutch national broadcaster, has confirmed that a decision on whether the Netherlands will compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 will be made by early September. This follows a period of careful consideration and comes after the country’s non-participation in Eurovision 2026.
AVROTROS gave NU.nl the following statement regarding its decision to compete at Eurovision 2027:
Our decision will follow in late August, early September. We will communicate about it then as well. Canada’s participation has not changed anything about that.
The broadcaster opted out of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 due to significant concerns surrounding Israel’s participation. AVROTROS cited issues related to humanitarian suffering in Gaza, restrictions on press freedom, and alleged political interference during the 2025 contest as reasons incompatible with their core values.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has recently indicated that Israel’s participation in the 2027 contest is not currently under discussion. This stance from the EBU will likely be a crucial factor in AVROTROS’s upcoming decision.
While the Netherlands awaits its decision, other developments for Eurovision 2027 include Canada’s announced debut, marking a new chapter for the contest. Meanwhile, Belgium‘s participation remains undecided, highlighting the ongoing discussions among various broadcasters regarding their involvement.
The forthcoming announcement from AVROTROS is highly anticipated by Dutch Eurovision fans, who hope to see their nation return to the biggest music competition in the world in 2027.
Last December five countries (Netherlands, Spain, Ireland, Iceland, Ireland) decided to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest due to Israel’s participation.
