CBC, the Canadian national broadcaster and the EBU have confirmed that Canada will debut at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Bulgaria.
Good evening Europe, this is Toronto calling! Canada will debut at the Eurovision Song Contest come 2027, and will partake in the semi-finals. We will be having a new country debuting at the Eurovision Song Contest since 2015 when Australia made its debut.
CBC will unveil the mechanism and format it will use to determine the 2027 Canadian Eurovision entry and act later during the year. More details regarding the Canadian Eurovision 2027 project and plan of action will be unveiled in due time.
The EBU’s official press release reads:
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and its newest Member CBC/Radio-Canada, Canada’s national public broadcaster, are excited to announce that Canada will participate in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria.Canada is the first new country to join the Eurovision Song Contest since Australia in 2015 and will compete in the Semi-Finals when they join the competition next year. CBC/Radio-Canada will unveil details on how Canada’s entry will be selected later this year. Canadian interest in, and enthusiasm for, Eurovision is high. For the 70th Eurovision Song Contest in May, Canada ranked in the Top 3 countries in the “Rest of the World” vote. Canadians were also among the largest ticket-buyers outside of Europe, with many travelling to Vienna to attend the Semi Finals and Grand Final.
