The search for Canada’s first Eurovision artist begins
CBC/Radio-Canada is calling for applications from passionate Canadian artists who dream of competing on the Eurovision stage. This is presented as a passion project, fueled by a desire to fully embrace the spirit of the contest.
For its debut year, CBC/Radio-Canada has adopted a unique approach: selecting the artist before developing the song. Therefore, applicants are asked not to share or promote any specific song as part of their application process.
Key requirements for applicants
Prospective artists should familiarise themselves with the Eurovision Song Contest format by watching the 2026 Grand Final. Essential rules for the live performance include:
- A carefully choreographed, three-minute performance.
- A lead vocalist with a maximum of five other people on stage.
- Lead vocals must be performed live on stage; lip-syncing is strictly prohibited.
- No pitch-correction (e.g., Auto-tuning) for live vocals is permitted.
- The lead vocal must remain the only element performing the main melody and cannot be replaced or unduly assisted with backing tracks or pre-recorded elements.
Who CBC/Radio-Canada is looking for
The broadcaster is seeking a magnetic Canadian performer with an established career and a proven track record of captivating large live audiences. The ideal candidate must be fully prepared to commit to this historic moment and the extraordinary adventure that the Eurovision Song Contest entails.
Applications for interested artists opened on Monday, August 31, 2026, and will close on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Eligible applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 18 or over. The Road to the Eurovision Song Contest
Selecting the first-ever artist to represent Canada is a historic milestone. Once applications close on September 9th, entries will move through a multi-stage selection process designed to find our ultimate performer:
- Initial Assessment: CBC/Radio-Canada will determine a shortlist of finalists representing the rich diversity of Canada’s musical talent. Finalists will be announced this fall.
- Choosing Our Representative: Canadians will vote digitally on the shortlisted finalists. The public vote will be combined with a music industry jury vote.
- The Announcement: The successful artist will be announced by late fall 2026.
