DARA Becomes Cultural Ambassador for Bulgaria

Bulgarian music sensation DARA, fresh from her victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, is set to embark on an exciting new journey as a cultural ambassador for her home country. The popular artist has officially accepted an invitation from the Minister of Tourism, Ilin Dimitrov, to lead a significant national campaign.

This ambitious initiative aims to present Bulgaria’s rich and diverse history to a global audience. Leveraging DARA’s enhanced international profile following her Eurovision triumph, the campaign will highlight the nation’s historical landmarks, ancient traditions, and unique cultural identity. The Ministry of Tourism believes that DARA’s appeal and widespread recognition will be instrumental in attracting more visitors and fostering a deeper appreciation for Bulgaria worldwide.

Utilising the Eurovision Platform for National Pride

DARA’s decision to take on this ambassadorial role underscores the lasting impact of the Eurovision Song Contest beyond the competition itself. Her success has provided an unparalleled platform to promote national pride and cultural heritage. Fans across Europe and beyond are eager to see DARA utilise her global reach to tell Bulgaria’s compelling story and encourage international engagement with its fascinating past.

BNT’s official press release reads:

The winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 DARA accepted the invitation of the Minister of Tourism Dr. Ilin Dimitrov to join a large-scale campaign to present Bulgaria to the world. This took place at a meeting at the Ministry of Tourism, which was also attended by the Director General of Bulgarian National Television Milena Milotinova.
The project envisages the filming of clips and advertising materials with famous Bulgarians – artists, athletes, scientists, young talents and people with high achievements, who can speak about our country personally and convincingly.

DARA named her hometown of Varna as the place she feels most connected to. She shared that she is proud of the landmarks of the seaside capital such as the Varna Chalcolithic Necropolis (the oldest processed gold in the world), the natural phenomenon “Pobiti Kamani”, Aladzha Monastery, the Roman Baths, etc.

DARA says:

“My favorite subject in school was history. It’s important to me that the message to the audience is personal. When a person talks about a place that they really felt, then it reaches people much more strongly“

She also shared her emotions from last year’s visit to the Belogradchik Rocks, which symbolize the beauty of Bulgaria for her.

According to the Director General of BNT Milena Milotinova, our country has an extremely strong identity as an ancient state with a very rich culture and jewelry gold treasures, and has also given the world one of the most widespread alphabets – the Cyrillic alphabet, and this story should be presented on a global scale.

Minister Ilin Dimitrov also presented DARA with a special gift – a statuette with a rose, which is the most popular symbol of Bulgaria.
