Justs Sirmais has won Supernova 2016 and will represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

The singer triumphed in this evenings final, beating competition from Catalepsia who finished as runner-ups.

MyRadiantU and Marta Ritova finished third and fourth respectively.

Justs has dominated the competition throughout. He made it through his heat and the semi-final after topping the vote in each show.

His entry, Heartbeat, was written by last years Supernova winner and Latvian Eurovision Song Contest entrant, Aminata.

The outcome tonight was decided by televote alone, with the jury offering comments on each performance.

The Supernova 2016 jury consisted of Kaspars Roga, Ieva Kerevica, Intars Busulis, and Guntars Račs.

Intars represented Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009, whilst Kaspars represented the country in 2000 as the drummer in Brainstorm.

Guntars is a Latvian musician, songwriter and producer, and Ieva is a singer and vocal teacher.

Justs victory means he’ll represent his country at the Eurovision Song Contest in May. Following the allocation draw in January, it was determined that Latvia will perform in the first half of the second semi-final.

The result was also correctly predicted by our National Chart predictor, which saw Justs win with 98 points out of 100.

Supernova 2016 concluded tonight after four weeks of competition. 18 acts took part in this years selection, which started at the beginning of February.

Supernova 2016 finalists:

  • JustsHeartbeat
  • CatalepsiaDamnation
  • Marta Ritova – Not from this world
  • MyRadiantU – We will be stars

Last year, Aminata represented Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna.

She ended the country’s seven year absence from the final, and earned Latvia it’s highest finish since their 5th place in 2005.

Her entry, Love injected, also brought Latvia their highest ever points total in the competition, scoring 186.

Do you think Latvia made a good choice sending Justs to Stockholm?
