Latvia: Four Supernova semi-finalists chosen

The first four semi-finalists for Supernova 2016 have been chosen.

Tonight saw the first Supernova live show take place where the first group of ten songs were performed.

The line-up included Supernova 2015 finalists ElectroFolk, as well former national final entrants in Samanta Tina and Sabine Berezina.

Tonights show also saw the return of last years Supernova winner, Aminata Savodogo, but this time as a song writer for Justs entry Heartbeat.

Justs and Catalepsia were the first two acts to make the semi-final after they topped the public vote in the first phase of voting, with Justs picking up 40% of the vote.

Marta Grigale and Ivo Grīsninš Grīslis were then chosen for the final by the Supernova jury, which includes Brainstorm drummer Kaspars Roga and the Latvian representative at the Eurovision 2009, Intars Busulis.

Tonights qualifiers will be joined in the semi-final by another four artists following the second heat, which takes place next week.

Supernova 2016 schedule

  • Heat one – 7 February
  • Heat two – 14 February
  • Semi-final – 21 February
  • Final – 28 February

Last year, Aminata won Supernova and represented Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015.
Her song Love injected brought her country their best finish in ten years (6th) and their highest ever points total with 186.

Latvia will perform in the first half of the second semi-final at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm.
