The Eurovision Song Contest 2015 won’t be the first time 25-year old Mélanie René has represented her country internationally. Back in 2009, when Mélanie was just 19, she sang for Switzerland at the Georges Gregoriu International Festival, which is held annually in Brăila, eastern Romania. There, with her self-penned song, Il chante avec les anges, Mélanie took first place. A victory she’ll be hoping to repeat this coming May in Vienna.

Mélanie was born in Geneva to a Mauritian family, and she started writing music at the young age of 9. She attended the prestigious Ateliers du Funambule music school in Nyon, Switzerland, and later moved to the UK to complete her studies in music; first at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, and then at Brighton’s famous Institute of Modern Music, where she graduated with a BA (Hons) degree just last year in 2014.

She has performed solo and with many bands and is currently working on her debut EP.
