Tonight, Latvia selected their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014. After two semi-finals, a final and a super-final, it was Aarzemnieki who were crowned the winners of Dziesma 2014 and will now represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014.
12 songs contested the final of Dziesma 2014, where three songs progressed to the super final. Samanta Tina, Dons and eventual winners Aarzemnieki were the top three when the jury and public votes were combined and they each performed again to try and clinch the victory in the final round.
After finishing first in the televote and second in the jury vote, Aarzemnieki won the right to represent Latvia with their song Cake to bake. You can see the winning entry below:
Latvia will perform in the first half of the first semi-final on 6 May. In the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest Latvia were represented by PeR, who finished 17th in their semi-final with 13 points.
Having made their debut in 2000, Eurovision 2014 will be the country’s fifteenth appearance in the contest. Latvia has recorded one victory in that time, at the Eurovision Song Contest 2002 when Marie N won with her entry I wanna, and they have failed to qualify in each of the last five contests.
