Last Monday GPB, the Georgian national broadcaster, informed esctoday.com that Nodi Tatishvili and Sophie Gelovani had been selected to represent Georgia at the forthcoming 2013 Eurovision Song Contest. Today we would like to introduce you to the Georgian duo who will have the honour of flying the Georgian flag in Malmö.
Both Sophie and Nodi are well known artists at home in Georgia, enjoying fame and recognition.
Nodi Tatishvili
Nodi Tatishvili was born on 5 November 1986. He graduated from Tbilisi Musical School and Georgia’s Technical University, Faculty of Public Administration. He studied at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and Burlington School in London from 2010-2011.
Nodi Tatishvili has taken part in many international musical contests and achieved much success: TheInternational Music Festival Palanga 2005 (Lithuania), The Amber Star 2005 (Lithuania), Astana 2007 (Kazakhstan), World Star Quest 2008, Slaviansky Bazar (Belarus), Golden Voices ( Moldova). He has also taken part in several international projects. He won the Georgian TV musical project Geostar 2009.
Tatishvili has played the main role in many musicals: Aleksandre Basilaia’s Chkhikvta Kortsili (2008) and Musical of Giorgi Tsabadze and Giorgi Shengelaia Melodies of Vera District (2012).
In 2011, the Georgian star released his debut album I am Georgian. His first solo concert was held at the Tbilisi Philharmonic Hall in 2011. He was the member of the Choir at the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral from 2008-2009.
Sophie Gelovani
Sophie (Sopho) Gelovani was born on 21 March 1984. She studied at the Musical School, Piano Academy from 1990-1997. She has graduated from The Ilia Chavchavadze State University, Faculty of International Relations (2001-2005). From 2003-2007 she studied at the Zakaria Paliashvili Musical School.
In 1999 Sophie won the Georgian television music show Morning Star. Then in 2000 she went on to win the first prize at the International Muscial Contest Doremi in Yerevan,Armenia. Sophie has gained much fame, name and experience throughout her musical career. She has won many prestigious awards and contests: The 2006 Grand Prix of International Contest Songs of the World (Chisinau, Moldova), The International Song Contest Весна романса (Saint Petersburg), The 2007 Moscow International Contest. Sophie is also a teacher at the Iakob Gogebashvili Musical School.
