The deadline for submitting songs finished in Iceland last week. The Icelandic broadcaster RUV has just announced that 240 songs have been received in the search for an Icelandic entry for Malmö in May 2013.

This is more than ever before and songwriters were reportedly queueing up outside the broadcaster offices until late at night. RUV feels this is a substantial number compared to the submissions received in Finland and Denmark, whereas it is a very long way from the Swedish numbers.

The Icelandic national finals are expected to follow the familiar pattern from last year, with 12 to 15 songs selected to take part in the televised shows. The Icelandic final will be on 9 February.

The 2012 Icelandic entry by Greta Salome and Jónsi called Never forget reached the 20th position in the Baku final.
