The board of Icelandic national broadcaster RÚV has voted to continue its boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest for 2027. This decision, made at a meeting today, stipulates that Iceland will not participate unless Israel is barred from the competition.
A majority of the RÚV board members have formally requested that the broadcaster’s director inform the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) of their position. Six out of nine board members submitted a statement calling for the boycott to continue if Israel takes part in Eurovision 2027.
RUV’s press release reads:
Six of the nine board members submitted minutes stating that they directed to the Director General of RUV “to notify the EBU that the Icelandic National Broadcasting Corporation will not participate in Eurovision in 2027 unless Israel is barred from participating in the competition. The previous call to the EBU that Israel be expelled from the competition is reiterated and it is requested that the radio director convey that reiteration.”
This decision reiterates RÚV’s earlier stance and comes after Iceland, along with Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovenia, boycotted Eurovision 2026 due to Israel’s participation.
The board’s chairman, Stefán Jón Hafstein, has stated that the situation remains unchanged as the EBU has not yet addressed the substance of their concerns regarding Israel’s involvement.:

The board members’ position is clear: Iceland will not participate in Eurovision unless Israel is denied participation in the contest.
