With Bulgaria set to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, Polina Karastoyanova, Executive Director of the National Tourism Board, has underscored the immense potential of the event. She views Eurovision as a pivotal opportunity for the country to embark on a significant national repositioning. This strategic vision aims to leverage the global spotlight of the contest to enhance Bulgaria’s international image and boost its tourism sector.

Bulgaria is gearing up to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Burgas, following DARA‘s triumphant victory at Eurovision 2026. In light of this exciting development, Polina Karastoyanova, the Executive Director of the National Tourism Board, has shared her perspective on the far-reaching benefits this event can bring to the nation.

Karastoyanova believes that hosting Eurovision should serve as the catalyst for a comprehensive repositioning of Bulgaria on the global stage. The National Tourism Board sees the contest not just as a music event, but as a strategic platform to improve connectivity and promote the country’s diverse offerings.

Polina Karasatoyanova (Executive Director of Buglarian National Tourism Boar) says:

First of all, we must define as a great success what has been achieved so far by BNT, which presented itself in a very professional manner and obviously made an excellent impression in the procedure for determining the host city and the interaction with the European institutions. We should also congratulate the mayor of Burgas and his team, because they have obviously fully deservedly impressed this committee that made the decision.

Polina adds:

In fact, Eurovision should not be the ultimate goal, but rather the beginning of a new repositioning of Bulgaria, a new look at Bulgaria and a remarkable celebration of the 20th anniversary of Bulgaria’s full accession to the European Union, which we will celebrate in 2027.And there we see the role and place of the “Brand Bulgaria” fund, which the minister set as a mechanism for creating this image and a mechanism for its management. So “Eurovision” is an excellent occasion, the mobilizing occasion with which this process is launched

Polina goes on to comment:

We should look at Eurovision not only as a task for the three days of the competition program, in which to present ourselves in the best possible way. We should look at Eurovision as a game changer, that factor that changes the environment and that changes the processes afterwards.A large part of the guests for Eurovision would land in Burgas, of course, but a significant part will be in Sofia, another part in Varna. So the entire connectivity between Sofia and Varna, first of all by land, for this I draw the attention of the Minister of Regional Development, must be in excellent condition.

This initiative aligns with broader goals to showcase Bulgaria’s cultural richness, natural beauty, and modern infrastructure to millions of viewers worldwide. The exposure gained from hosting such a prestigious international competition is expected to attract more tourists and investors, fostering economic growth and enhancing Bulgaria’s reputation as a vibrant European destination. The collaboration between national entities like the National Tourism Board and the public broadcaster BNT is crucial in ensuring a successful event that leaves a lasting positive legacy for Bulgaria.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2027 is scheduled to be held at the Arena Burgas in Burgas, Bulgaria on 11, 13 and 15 May.
