Significant progress is being reported in Bulgaria’s preparations to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. This follows a high-level meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov, Eurovision Director Martin Green, and Bulgarian National Television (BNT) Director-General Milena Milotinova in Sofia. The rapid organisation efforts have garnered considerable praise from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Bulgaria is moving with remarkable speed and efficiency in its preparations to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, a feat that has impressed officials from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Following Dara’s historic victory at Eurovision 2026 with her song ‘Bangaranga’, the nation immediately began planning for the upcoming event.

A recent meeting in Sofia brought together key figures, including Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov, Eurovision Director Martin Green, and BNT Director-General Milena Milotinova, to review the progress. Martin Green commended Bulgaria’s swift response and professional approach, noting that such rapid organisation is unprecedented in the history of the contest. He expressed strong confidence in Bulgaria’s ability to deliver a successful and unforgettable cultural event.

Martin Green (Eurovision Director) says:

“Bulgaria has impressed all of us with its exceptionally rapid response and professional approach to the preparations. There has never been a comparable case in the history of the contest. This gives us every reason to expect a successful hosting and a truly unforgettable cultural event”

Deputy Prime Minister Hristov Leads Organising Committee

Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov has been appointed to lead the interdepartmental organising committee overseeing the preparations for Eurovision 2027. He emphasised that hosting the contest presents an exceptional opportunity for Bulgaria to showcase its rich culture and creative potential to a global audience, anticipating long-term benefits for the country.

BNT Director-General Milena Milotinova officially received the ‘Host Welcome Pack’ from Martin Green, marking a crucial step in the organisational process. This pack contains comprehensive guidelines and essential information from the EBU, designed to assist the host broadcaster in planning and executing the complex event, covering aspects from venue specifications to broadcast standards and security protocols.

Martin Green, Director of Eurovision says:

“Once again, congratulations on winning Eurovision 2026. Congratulations to DARA, congratulations to BNT and congratulations to Bulgaria. You are now officially the host of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. We wish you the very best of luck with the organisation and look forward to the outstanding work you will do over the coming year. With this package, we welcome you and say: ‘Welcome to the Eurovision Song Contest family.’

Host City Selection Underway

The search for the host city for Eurovision 2027 is progressing rapidly, with an announcement expected by the end of July 2026. BNT is actively engaging with four major Bulgarian cities that have expressed keen interest: Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, and Burgas.

BNT is looking for a ‘partner city’ that will collaborate closely throughout the planning and delivery of the event, rather than just a venue. Key requirements for potential host cities include an indoor venue with a minimum capacity of 10,000 spectators, extensive areas for a press centre, dedicated spaces for artists and delegations, and robust transport and technical infrastructure.
