Bulgarian national broadcaster BNT has officially sent its response to the Sofia Municipality. This communication provides feedback on Sofia’s bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, following Burgas’s selection as the host city. The capital municipality had requested detailed evaluations after the final decision was announced.
BNT Provides Feedback on Sofia’s Eurovision 2027 Candidacy
Bulgarian national broadcaster BNT has confirmed that it has forwarded its official response to the Sofia Municipality. This communication addresses the capital city’s bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, a process that concluded with the announcement of Burgas as the chosen host city on 13 August 2026.
Following the decision, the Sofia Municipality had formally requested detailed evaluations and the specific reasoning behind why its bid did not succeed over Burgas’s. BNT’s response is understood to be a comprehensive feedback document, providing insights into the strengths and weaknesses of Sofia’s candidacy presentation.
While the specific details of the feedback have not yet been publicly disclosed, this development indicates ongoing transparency efforts between the national broadcaster and the capital’s municipal authorities. Sofia had expressed its readiness to support Burgas in hosting the event, while simultaneously seeking a professional assessment of its own proposal.
BNT’s press release reads:
The letter recalls that in the invitation to participate in the host city selection procedure, Sofia Municipality
received detailed information and specific requirements for the host city. They meet the standards of the Contest from recent years and have been approved by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
The proposal has been assessed in accordance with these requirements, as well as in accordance with the questions and answers that were exchanged between BNT and the candidate cities, the letter further states. It is noted that BNT is obliged to implement the EBU standards, however, the candidacy is an opportunity for the host city to contribute with its own ideas – proposals on topics such as culture, authenticity and public enthusiasm, inclusion and diversity, financial accessibility.
The letter further points out specific inconsistencies – information intended solely for internal purposes of the Sofia Municipality, according to the signed confidentiality agreements between the candidate cities and BNT.
BNT thanks you for your stated commitment in the process of selecting a host city and hopes that the information provided will help to upgrade the proposals for future opportunities to host other international events.

The 71st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest is set to take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, with the Grand Final scheduled for 15 May 2027 at Arena Burgas.
