Excitement surrounding Bulgaria’s anticipated hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 has reportedly reached Hollywood star Maria Bakalova. The Oscar-nominated Bulgarian actress is among the names most frequently suggested by viewers as a potential presenter for next year’s contest.

Bulgaria to host Eurovision 2027

Bulgaria is set to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027, following Dara’s historic victory at the 2026 edition in Vienna with her song ‘Bangaranga‘. This marks the first time Bulgaria will stage the prestigious competition, bringing immense national pride and anticipation for the event.

Hollywood star Maria Bakalova embracing hosting rumours

Amidst the excitement, a prominent name has emerged as a fan favourite to host the contest: Oscar-nominated actress Maria Bakalova. Known for her breakthrough role in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and appearances in various Hollywood productions, Bakalova is a celebrated Bulgarian talent. Reports indicate that the actress has embraced the fan proposals, suggesting her openness to taking on the role.

Bakalova is not alone in the public’s suggestions; actor Julian Kostov, also internationally recognised for his work in series like The White Lotus, is frequently mentioned as a potential co-host. Both Bakalova and Kostov have reportedly engaged with these ideas on social media, indicating their readiness to serve as Bulgaria’s Eurovision hosts.

Preparations for Eurovision 2027 underway

While the hosts are still speculative, preparations for Eurovision 2027 are already in motion. The Bulgarian government has formed an Organising Committee to coordinate the event. Several Bulgarian cities, including Sofia, Burgas, Varna, and Plovdiv, have already showcased their interest in hosting the event next year when the Eurovision bandwagon lands in Bulgaria. The 2027 Eurovision Song Contest bidding process is yet to kick off as we are awaiting for BNT to open the ESC 2027 bidding process and publish the rules and requirements for the host city.

The 2027 Eurovision host city is expected to be unveiled by late summer.
