Following DARA’s historic victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna, Bulgaria is now gearing up to host the prestigious event in 2027. Prime Minister Rumen Radev has announced the formation of an interdepartmental organising committee to oversee the preparations, to be headed by Vice Prime Minister Ivo Hristov. This marks Bulgaria’s first time hosting the Eurovision Song Contest.

The Bulgarian government is wasting no time in preparing for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027, as the nation celebrates its inaugural victory. Prime Minister Rumen Radev confirmed that an interdepartmental organising committee has been established to manage the extensive preparations required for hosting the international music competition.

Vice Prime Minister Ivo Hristov has been appointed to lead this crucial committee, which will include representatives from various relevant ministries. Prime Minister Radev emphasised the monumental task ahead, stating that the organisation demands significant financial resources and extensive coordination.

Bulgaria’s Historic Win and Hosting Intentions

Bulgaria earned the right to host Eurovision 2027 after pop sensation DARA triumphed at the 2026 contest in Vienna with her powerful anthem, ‘Bangaranga’. This victory was a historic moment for the country, securing its first-ever win.

Bulgarian National Television (BNT) Director General, Milena Milotinova, wasted no time in confirming the broadcaster’s intention to host the 2027 contest, even extending a ‘Welcome to Sofia next year!’ during the winner’s press conference.

Budget and Potential Host Cities

The estimated cost for organising Eurovision 2027 in Bulgaria is projected to be between EUR 20 million and EUR 30 million. Vice Prime Minister Hristov indicated that a dedicated Eurovision budget line will be established, with funding expected to come from a combination of state resources, sponsorship from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), and national sponsors.

The decision on the host city is still pending, but several major Bulgarian cities have already expressed keen interest in staging the contest. These include the capital Sofia, along with Plovdiv, Burgas, and Varna. BNT is expected to initiate a bidding round for all interested municipalities to present their proposals.
