Bulgarian superstar DARA, the triumphant winner of Eurovision 2026, recently sat down for an interview with CNN Türk. During the discussion, she shared insights into her journey to victory and made a significant appeal regarding Turkey’s participation in the contest.
DARA’s heartfelt appeal to Turkey
In her exclusive interview with CNN Türk, DARA, who captivated audiences and juries alike to secure the Eurovision 2026 trophy for Bulgaria, spoke openly about her experiences. Beyond recounting the path to her monumental win with the song ‘Bangaranga’, the celebrated artist used the platform to extend a warm invitation to a long-absent nation.
DARA passionately called for Turkey to make a highly anticipated return to the Eurovision Song Contest. Turkey last participated in 2012 and has been sorely missed by fans and participants alike. Her appeal highlights the desire within the Eurovision community to see the diverse musical talent of Turkey once again grace the iconic stage.
The Bulgarian champion expressed her belief that Turkey’s return would significantly enrich the competition, bringing its unique cultural flavour and passionate fanbase back into the fold. This public call from a reigning champion, especially one who has just brought Bulgaria its first-ever Eurovision victory, is likely to spark further discussions and hopes among fans for Turkey’s potential comeback in future editions of the contest.
DARA says:
I think with this song, with the love and support we received, we finally united the Balkans. I’ve been in love with Turkey since I was maybe 5 years old and I’m very happy to have received your support.
DARA’s husband has Turkish roots and she visits Turkey very often.
DARA says:
I can’t speak Turkish, but I wish I could speak it calmly. My husband is Turkish and his family has lived in Bulgaria for many years. His sister is still in Turkey. Our nephews are there. We love Turkey very much.
