NDR, the German national broadcaster, has confirmed to ESCToday that Germany will compete at the forthcoming 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands.
Thus Germany joins Czech Republic, Norway, San Marino and Denmark in the list of countries who so far have confirmed their participation at the 2020 Eurovision edition scheduled to be held in the Netherlands next year.
Germany is yet to determine the format it will use to select its Eurovision entry and act for 2020. More details on the German Eurovision 2020 project are expected to be released soon.
Germany in Eurovision
Germany debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and is one of the founder members of the competition. The country has won the competition twice, namely in 1982 (Nicole) and 2010 (Lena). The Germans have participated in every single edition of our beloved competition with the exception of 1996 when the country was relegated as it didn’t qualify from the pre-qualification round (a mechanism which was introduced in 1996 and removed the following year).
In 2019 Germany was represented by female duo S!sters with their song Sister, achieving a 25th placing in the Grand Final.
