Dana International, winner of Eurovision 1998 and again Israeli representative in 2011, will be performing the upcoming May in Tel Aviv. Eurofans are looking forward to it.
Diva. Queen. Icon. Dana International is surely among the most well-known faces of recent Eurovision history. She brought her country to the third Eurovision victory by triumphing in 1998 in Birmingham. She later came back on stage in 2011 in Düsseldorf, this time failing the access to the Grand Final. Dana is now ready for a third Eurovision appearance, though this time not taking part to the contest.
Back on home soil
In a recent interview, Dana confessed that she will perform during the Eurovision in Tel Aviv next May. It is still unclear though when and how she will take part to the festival.
In the same interview the singer also admitted that it is not important where the contest takes place, as “there’s no law that it should be held in the capital city”, referring to the duel between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem to host the contest.
As Eurofans are excited to see the Diva on stage again, let’s watch her two past appearances in Eurovision, in 1998 with Diva, and again in 2011 with Ding Dong:
Israel in Eurovision
Israel debuted in Eurovision in 1973 and has taken part to the contest 41 times so far. Four are the victories: in 1978, 1979, 1998 and 2018.
Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, Israel has qualified to the Grand Final eight times. Recently, Israel reached the top ten in 2015 with Nadav Guedj finishing, and again with the victory of Netta Barzilai in Lisbon in 2018. Israel will host the edition number 64 of the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv on May 14, 16 and 18.
