The 2018 Hungarian Eurovision hopefuls AWS travelled to Portugal recently in order to film their Eurovision postcard, namely to the iconic village of Óbidos.

The delegations and participants of the 43 participating countries at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest will be travelling to Portugal prior to the contest in order to film their respective presentation postcards. Each artist will be portrayed in an activity or a challenge.

The postcards will showcase the beauty of Portugal and will portray the Eurovision artists enjoying the sights and sounds of the host country.

The presentation postcards serve as a massive platform for the host country to promote its tourism and showcase itself on a global scale as millions of viewers tune in to watch Europe’s favorite television show. The Eurovision Song Contest reaches households beyond Europe, from Australia to Argentina, from China to New Zealand, from USA to India etc

The Hungarian postcard

The five members of the Hungarian metal band AWS, who will represent Hungary this year at the Eurovision Song Contest, were in Portugal for the recording of their postcard and the chosen location was none other than Óbidos.

The medieval village of Óbidos is one of the most picturesque places in Portugal. Located near the Atlantic coast, Óbidos has played a central role throughout Portugal’s history. Within its walls, one can find a magnificent castle and quirky labyrith style streets that incite visitors to take a walk. In Obidos, AWS had the opportunity to enjoy the International Chocolate Festival, which the village hosts every year. After a guided tour of the festival, the band enjoyed the chocolate sculptures and visited the castle.

AWS were thrilled with their visit to Portugal:

We were lucky to shoot in the historic village of Óbidos because it is the right place to taste the famous Ginjinha. Our stay was fantastic and we would love to return. The team even gave us a surprise and took us to the concert of the Portuguese band Moonspell! We got on very well with the team and it was a lot fun from the beginning until the end.

By the way, we can say that the Portuguese have a great sense of humor, based on this experience. And the gastronomy was excellent: we tried very good dishes, including the francesinha. We must not forget the fresh seafood and fantastic wines!
