BNT, the Bulgarian national broadcaster has informed ESCToday that it has submitted the required paperwork to the EBU in order to participate at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. The broadcaster will officially confirm its participation once the new board of directors ratifies the 2018 Bulgarian Eurovision project.

BNT is yet to officially confirm its participation in Eurovision 2018, but there is no reason to believe that we will not see the Balkan country in Lisbon specially after its fantastic results in the competition in 2016 and 2017. ESCToday has learned that the Bulgarian broadcaster has every intention to join the Eurovision party next year.

Awaiting final approval

The Bulgarian broadcaster has elected a new director recently, thus the new managing board has yet to approve the country’s participation in Lisbon. We expect BNT to relase more details and information regarding this matter in due course.

It is more than likely that Bulgaria will yet again select its Eurovision entry via an internal selection. In 2017 Bulgaria selected Kristian Kostov via an internal selection in order to represent the country at the ESC in Kyiv. The Bulgarian artist took Europe by storm with a mesmerising performance and giving his country its best ESC result.

Bulgaria in Eurovision

Bulgaria debuted in Eurovision in 2005 with Kafe is and yet to win the contest, whilst the country achieved its best result in 2017 with Kristian Kostov’s Beautiful mess, nearly walking away with the Grand Prix (placing 2nd in Kyiv).

Eurovision 2018

The 2018 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 8, 10 and 12 May in Lisbon, Portugal.

The deadline for broadcasters to officially apply for Eurovision 2018 concluded on 15 September. Hereafter, countries have a grace period to confirm their participation or withdraw their application without a penalty until 10 October.

The final list of the 2018 Eurovision participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU later during the year.
