The Netherlands 
NPO, the Dutch national broadcaster, has confirmed that the Netherlands will compete at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Bulgaria.
In 2026 AVROTROS and The Netherlands withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest due to Israel’s participation at the competition and it did the same for next year’s edition and passed on the baton to NPPO. Hence NPO has taken over the responsibility of the Dutch Eurovision 2027 participation.
The three Eurovision 2027 live shows will be broadcast on NOS.
NPO’s press release reads:
The public broadcaster will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest again starting in 2027 with a Dutch entry. An independent team of experts will carefully oversee the process surrounding the act. Coverage of the semi-finals and the final of the Eurovision Song Contest will be provided by the NOS.
Last month, AVROTROS decided to withdraw as the responsible broadcaster for the Dutch entry, because participation under the current circumstances does not align with the broadcaster’s values, thereby returning responsibility for the event to the NPO .
The EBU has since taken significant steps regarding the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest. These changes came about in part thanks to the critical public broadcasters who engaged in the debate. In the discussions that followed AVROTROS’s withdrawal, the NPO agreed with the EBU to once again place the festival’s original premise at the center.
Jet de Ranitz, Chairman of the Executive Board of the NPO says:
We understand that participation in the Eurovision Song Contest evokes mixed feelings in the Netherlands. We have explicitly asked the EBU to once again make the unifying character of the festival an important part of the event, in recognition of a time of geopolitical unrest, war, and polarization. The Song Contest was originally founded to bring people in Europe together. to bring together after the Second World War. We are seeking that connection again now, by paying attention to what is happening in the world and giving space to the conversation about it. To help shape and promote this course, we, as the Dutch public broadcaster, want also be part of the Eurovision Song Contest again. This way we can ‘United also truly carry out ‘by Music’ together.
The Netherlands at Eurovision
The Netherlands is one of the founder members of the Eurovision Song Contest, having debuted in the very first contest back in 1956. The Dutch won the competition 5 times: 1957, 1959, 1969, 1975 and 2019. The Netherlands have partaken in the competition 65 times.
In 2025 Claude represented The Netherlands with his entry ‘C’est la vie‘.
