Romania: TVR confirms participation in Eurovision 2018

TVR, the Romanian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Romania will participate at the forthcoming 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon.

TVR told ESCToday that Romania has every intention to join the Eurovision party in Portugal next year, but has to wait until September for the government to approve the broadcaster’s 2017-2018 budget in order to get the ball rolling!

The Romanian broadcaster will yet again opt for a national selection in order to select its entry and act for Eurovision. More details regarding Romania’s plans for Lisbon will be disclosed in due course.

Romania in Eurovision

Romania debuted in 1994 in the Eurovision and is yet to win the competition. The country achieved its best placing in the competition in 2005 and 2010 when it placed 3rd. We must not forget that Romania is amongst the group of countries that has qualified to the Grand Final every year since its introduction in 2004.

The country has the tradition of selecting its Eurovision hopefuls via its national selection Selecţia Naţională.

In 2017, Ilinca and Alex Florea flew the Romanian flag in Kyiv with their entry Yodel it!.

Eurovision 2018

The 2018 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 8, 10 and 12 in Lisbon, Portugal.

The deadline for broadcasters to officially apply for Eurovision 2018 concludes by mid September. Hereafter, countries have a grace period to confirm their participation or withdraw their application without a penalty.

The final list of the 2018 Eurovision participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU later during the year.
