IBA, the Israeli national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday that Israel will participate at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, next May.
Last September the Israeli broadcaster had confirmed to ESCtoday that it had submitted a preliminary application to the EBU in order to participate in the upcoming contest in Vienna, whilst a final decision was yet to be made. Today we can confirm that Israel will definately join the party in Vienna next year!
IBA is yet to reveal the mechanism it will use to select its Eurovision act and entry for Vienna. The broadcaster will release more details regarding its 2015 Eurovision project in due course.
In 2014 Israel opted for an internal selection in order to selects its Eurovision representative whilst the Israeli entry was selected via public vote. Mei Finegold was selected to represent Israel at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with her entry Same Heart. Despite an enegetic performance in Copenhagen Mei failed to qualify to the grand final.
Israel debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1973 with Ilanit and has won the competion 3 times (1978 with Yizhar Cohen and Alpha Beta, 1979 with Gali Atari and Milk & Honey, and in 1998 with Dana International). Israel has hosted the event twice in 1979 and 1999 in Jerusalem.
The official list of participating countries at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is expected to be released by the EBU by early 2015.
The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 19, 21 and 23 May at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria.
