On the release of his latest single, Carl posted on his official Facebook page that he was pleased about the reaction so far,

What a day! My new single “Holding On” was released today, and I am so happy for all the fantastic feedback I have received so far. I truly appreciate all the love and excitement you’re passing on to me. And I am just so glad to hear that so many of you like the new song.

Last May, Carl finished in 8th place at the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen with his entry Silent storm.

Norway has won the competition on three occasions, the most recent of which was Alexander Rybak’s win in 2009 with Fairytale. The country also holds the record for the highest number of last place finishes in the final, having placed at the bottom of the leader board 11 times.

NRK, the Norwegian national broadcaster, has already confirmed their participation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna. They will once again be using Melodi Grand Prix, the competition Carl Espen won to represent Norway, to pick their entry.
