The final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest has taken a sharp fall with 20 percent viewers lost this year, according to survey company MMS.

Although Sanna Nielsen was touted the favorite in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest 20 percent less Swedes tuned in to follow her progress through this years competition.

It is interesting to observe Melodifestivalen continuing to sustain high viewing figures whilst also capturing the attention of the Swedish nation in the early part of this year whilst Eurovision experienced a sharp drop in popularity.

Although SVT web tv svtplay increased slightly it didn’t compensate for the sharp loss of viewership SVT  experienced with the Eurovision Song Contest which normally enjoys high popularity throughout the country.

As the contest moves away from Scandanavia for its next edition esctoday.com will be keeping a keen eye on how the contest captures the Swedish public’s interest in 2015.
