LRT, the Lithuanian national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday.com that Lithuania has the intention to participate at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
Thus Lithuania is the 13th country to confirm its intention to participate at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest scheduled to be held in Austria next year. Hence Lithuania joins Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Ireland, Germany, Finland, The Netherlands, Belgium and Estonia in the list of the countries that have confirmed their intention to participate at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
The official list of participating countries at the forthcoming 2015 Eurovision Song Contest will be released by the EBU by the end of the year.
LRT is yet to decide the method and mechanism it will use to select its 2015 Eurovision entry and act. It is more than likely the country will yet again opt for a national selection, taking into account that the 2014 Lithuanian Eurovision national selection was a massive success. The broadcaster is curently evaluating and studying various options and will release its plans for Eurovision 2015 in the coming months.
In 2014 LRT opted to select the 2014 Lithuanian act and entry via a national selection- Eurovizijos. Vilija Matačiūnaitė won the 2014 Lithuanian national final and flew the Lithuanian flag in Copenhagen with her entry Attention. Unfortunately she did not qualify to the grand final.
Lithuania debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best placing at Europe’s favourite television show was in 2006 when LT United achieved a 6th placing in the Eurovision Song Contest final in Athens.
