Tonight, the final of Unser Song für Dänemark, the German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest will air on German national broadcaster’s Das Erste channel, as the country selects their act for the 2014 edition of the contest. 

The show

Eight acts will be performing tonight, each entering two songs into the competition, with the winner being decided through three rounds of voting. In round one each of the eight acts will choose to perform one of their two songs. A public-only vote will then decide which four acts progress to the next round.

The second round will see the four selected acts perform their second songs, where the public will once again have the total say on who makes the final two. In the third and final round of voting, the top two will perform both of their songs once more before a combination of public and jury vote decide the German entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2014.

Germany is one of the founder members of the Eurovision Song Contest, having made their debut at the very first edition of the competition in 1956. They have appeared at all but one of the contests, having failed to qualify from the pre-qualifying round for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996.
The country has won the competition on two occasions, the first of which was at Eurovision 1982, and most recently in 2010 when Lena won Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo with her song Satellite.

Last year, Germany were represented by Cascada, who finished 21^st in the grand final with 18 points.
