Tonight, the Swedish national broadcaster SVT will kick off the annual competition Melodifestivalen 2014 for selecting the Swedish entry with the first semi-final live from the Malmö Arena. The show will begin at 20:00 CET.

The show

This is the first heat of the competition. Eight artists will perform one song each, and the swedish public will vote and decide which two songs will go direct to the final and which two will get another chance in the andra chansen round. Four songs will be eliminated.

The show will be aired live on SVT1 as well as on SVT Europa via satellite at 20:00 CET. For the international viewers, a webstream will be made available on the Melodifestivalen.

The Swedish selection consists of 6 rounds. Three more semifinals will be held in the same format as tonight. After all semi-finals, the 3rd and 4th placed acts from each semifinal will compete in the Andra Chansen (second chance) round and the top 2 acts from Andra Chansen will proceed to the final . The final will be held on March 8 at the Friends Arena in Stockholm, where a total of 10 acts will battle for the golden ticket to Copenhagen.
