After the excess of Mr Lordi and friends the Ukraine took it one step further with the crazed warblings of Verka Seduchka. Her visual performance was hard to beat and even managed to propel the song into the UK charts. However much observation was being made of the damaging effect entries like these were having on the contest. Despite the controversy Verka finished a very respectable runner up.

However Verka’s detractors were to be silenced as Mr Magoo lookalike Marija Šerifović took to the stage ably assisted by her post communist dolly bird Belgrade assasins. The song was Molitva and it was a power house song of titanic proportions. Marija delivered a sterling vocal as her lipstick lesbians lifted the song into the realms of the netherworld. At one point it looked like Marija’s harem were trying to cure Quasimodo of his hump. This was a worthy winner reminding viewers that after all Eurovision was a song contest.
