Germany was to get into the 70’s groove with Joy Fleming’s Ein lied kann eine brücke sein which featured the obligatory 70’s acid queens on back up duty. Fleming herself has been terribly underrated as a performer. Her vocals are undeniably powerful taking inspiration from the Detroit Motown sound that was so popular. However as she ends the second chorus leading into the bridge she squeal’s out the top note like a goose being force fed gruel at a foie gras farm. Nevertheless Fleming battled her way to 17th place, which unfortunately for her was last, but she can be rest assured that at least her unique powerful voice would go on to be remembered by Eurovision fans for many years to come.
